  • Gilmer County Sheriff's Office feeling sad.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Deputy Lee Charles. Deputy Charles, or Lee as most all referred to him, was a 16-year employee of the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office. He spent the last 10 years of his life greeting everyone who walked through the front doors of the Courthouse. Due to his great upbeat and even funny demeanor, he became no doubt one of the favorite employees of the Sheriff's Office. During his recent absence, at least 2 or 3 times a day, someone would ask me or my deputies, "Where is Lee?" Or "How is Lee doing?" He is most definitely going to be missed by his co-workers and all the visitors of the courthouse who had become acquainted with him. Deputy Charles fought a long time and ultimately lost his battle with cancer today. He is survived by a daughter and his long-time companion, Heidi. Please keep them, as well as all the staff of not only the Sheriff's Office but the entire Courthouse, in your thoughts and prayers! -Sheriff Stacy Nicholson #gilmersheriff

  • Thankful my husband Tim and I came across Miss Lola and her dog today and got her safely home. She took us on a looong journey before we got her there but it all worked out. So glad Ellijay law enforcement didn't think we kidnapped her!!!!

Today, GCSO presented Deputy Lee Charles with his issued weapon that was retired to him based on his long service to the agency and the citizens of Gilmer County. Many of the employees from most of the county offices were on hand to support Lee. #gilmersheriff
